GRAND MANAN (GNB) – The Anchorage Provincial Park will be operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Manan for the next five years.

The club operated the park in 2013 and, under an agreement renewed with the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, will continue in their role. The Boys and Girls Club is an international organization with community roots.

“The club did fantastic work during the 2013 operating season,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. “Our government is proud to work with them to ensure the continued preservation of this park for all to enjoy.”

The department has operating agreements for many heritage sites and provincial parks including Oak Bay Campground, Camping Plage Val-Comeau, Sheriff Andrews House, MacDonald Farm and Doak House.

“We are pleased to operate the Anchorage Provincial Park for another five years,” said Pete Sesplankis, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. “We look forward to welcoming New Brunswickers and visitors alike as they come to enjoy the world-class natural experience we have here on Grand Manan.”

The club also intends to use the park and its facilities as a location for other Boys and Girls Club branches to offer training and recreational opportunities.

“I thank the Boys and Girls Club for their contribution to our vision of conserving our provincial parks and natural assets,” said Holder. "Having a third party operate the Anchorage Provincial Park, will help ensure that our vision for a sustainable parks network is realized.”

The park and campground will be open from May 30 to Sept. 8. Campsite reservations can be made online.
