RED DEER, Alta. (GNB) – Artistic gymnast Cameron MacMaster vaulted his way to a silver medal on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta.

MacMaster’s performance on the vault brings Team New Brunswick’s medal count to two.

“Honestly when I walked in, I did not think I was going to medal today, I was just going for broke,” said MacMaster, 18, of Rothesay.

Boxer Isaiah Haya struck gold on Wednesday for Team New Brunswick’s first medal of the games.

The wheelchair basketball team fell short of the bronze medal by one point, losing 56-55 against Team Quebec on Thursday evening.

On Friday, Team New Brunswick will have an opportunity for a medal in the 5,000-metre men’s short-track final. Earlier this week, the squad comprised of Anthony Cormier Losier, Colton Gough, Tyler MaGee and Conor Murray skated to a second-place finish in its heat to advance to Friday’s A final.

The ringette team will play for fifth spot in the overall standings against Team Nova Scotia in an all-Atlantic battle on Friday. New Brunswick defeated host Alberta 8-5 on Thursday afternoon.

Men’s hockey will face off against Nova Scotia or B.C. for seventh place.
