GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD (GNB) – The Grand Bay-Westfield Splash Pad was officially opened today.

The $491,000 project was made possible through an investment of $377,215 by the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield and a $113,785 investment from the provincial government.

“Your government is pleased to be a partner in this important recreational community project for the Town of Grand Bay-Westfield,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “This state-of-the-art water park will bring families and residents together to take part in healthy activities during the summer months.”

The splash pad is located next to the existing Tailwhip Park and incorporates a sustainable recirculation system where water can be treated and recycled multiple times before being discarded into the town's wastewater collection system. The facility includes a mechanical building to house treatment equipment, multiple spray features, a concrete play pad, water and sewer services, site grading and landscape restoration.

“We are proud to have the Province of New Brunswick as our partner ‎as we continue to create healthy recreational opportunities for the children and families presently in Grand Bay-Westfield and those that will chose us in the future,” said Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Grace Losier.

Site preparation for the water park began in July and the splash pad was contracted by TerraEX while Dillon Consulting was responsible for engineering work on the project.

Located at 37 Epworth Park Rd., the water park will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily until Sept. 23.
