OROMOCTO (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $150,000 in improvements to the Town of Oromocto in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
The project involves redesigning the current flower beds and rest area that overlooks the downtown business district, Hazen Park and the Oromocto River.
“We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful province of breathtaking landscapes, where we rejoice in its cultural diversity and welcoming spirit,” said deputy premier Stephen Horsman. “Our investment in this project will enrich Oromocto’s downtown while marking our nation’s 150th anniversary.”
Horsman spoke on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
“We are thrilled to receive the financial support today for our downtown beautification project to celebrate our nation’s 150th anniversary,” said Oromocto Mayor Robert Powell. “This project idea was created by council in support of the theme, Where Rivers and People Meet. The concept is to create a pedestrian-oriented environment at the downtown business district that will bring together neighbours and visitors alike.”
Funding is provided under the Program for Municipal Development to Commemorate Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Municipalities with populations of more than 4,000 and less than 25,000 were eligible to apply for funding of up to $150,000 for beautification projects to contribute to a vibrant and attractive downtown and to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
