SPRINGFIELD (CNB) – The provincial government is making an additional investment to help complete the sports field project in Springfield.

The announcement was made by Energy Minister Jack Keir. He was accompanied by Janice Bates, chair, Belleisle Bears Community Sports Field Committee.

“Our additional investment in this important community project will improve the quality of life for the residents of Springfield and the entire region, and this will also help us work toward our goal of self-sufficiency,” said Keir.

The minister was speaking on behalf of Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

"We are pleased with today's announcement from the provincial government," said Bates. "As a rural New Brunswick community, we are now able to complete a long-time project of repairing run-down sports fields. This also provides us the opportunity to put Belleisle on the map as being a location of choice to host first-class events."

The provincial government is investing $100,000, which is in addition to the $74,093 it made in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The project involves the construction of a new field surface and the restoration of another field behind Belleisle Regional High School.
