FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Youth Employment Fund, launched in April, has helped 800 young people gain employment experience and is on track to match 1,500 New Brunswick youths and employers in the program’s first year.

“To spur economic development, we need to develop our skilled workforce,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “The Youth Employment Fund will give our young people the chance to stay and work here in New Brunswick while gaining hands-on experience.”

The fund provides an entry point to long-term employment for individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 who require an opportunity for work experience. By placing an individual with an employer, the youth will gain work experience and develop skills.

“The Youth Employment Fund is a win-win situation in that employers are able to receive funding to provide valuable job opportunities to motivated youths and the young people receive coaching that will better equip them for today’s workforce,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry. “We encourage New Brunswick employers to take advantage of the fund and to help create jobs in the province.”

Employers and interested young people can indicate their interest in the program and find other employment resources online at NBjobs.ca.
