FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Beaverbrook Art Gallery has donated 134 publications worth almost $3,000 to the New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation for public libraries and bookmobiles in the province.

“Today's donation builds on the long-standing relationship between the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation to ensure the public have access to resources about our province's artistic history,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Jody Carr.

Since the beginning of the partnership, the gallery has made 276 books and other resources available through the libraries foundation and the province’s 63 public libraries and three bookmobiles. This latest donation includes recent publications such as Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Freeman Patterson: Embracing Creation, and WOLASTOQ (Beautiful River): The St. John River Project.

“We are pleased to continue to make the gallery's publications available through the public library system,” said Terry Graff, director, chief executive officer and chief curator of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. “Providing these publications to the libraries is one way we are fulfilling our mandate of providing all New Brunswickers access to their artistic and cultural heritage.”

The books can be accessed through the New Brunswick Public Library Service's online library catalogue.

“Our public library service plays an important role in supporting education and skills development, a key priority under the Labour Force and Skills Development Strategy,” said Carr. “Strong partnerships like this make for a strong public library system, which is integral to encouraging literacy and lifelong learning.”

The New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation's purpose is to raise funds in support of the development and promotion of the public library system. Donations of gifts-in-kind allow the foundation to match the dollar value of the books given, through the Matching Funds Program, which is supported by the provincial government.
