MONCTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing more than $745,000 in the Moncton region to grow the economy and help create up to 34 new jobs.

The investment is part of the province's One-Job Pledge initiative and Workforce Expansion program.

“Working with businesses to create jobs and investing in our young people is a key part of our government's plan to grow the economy and create new opportunities for New Brunswickers,” said Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Jody Carr. “These investments continue to show our government's commitment to New Brunswick businesses by providing recent post-secondary graduates the ability to gain valuable on-the-job work experience.”

As part of the its job creation strategy the government is helping to support the following businesses from a variety of sectors, including post-secondary, information and communication technology and manufacturing:

●    Oulton's College (five positions);
●    Imperial Manufacturing (four positions);
●    CBI Health Centre PC (nine positions);
●    Missing Link Technologies (six positions); and
●    CGI Information Systems Management Consultant (10 positions).

“Since launching the One-Job Pledge initiative earlier this year, it has helped create more than 600 jobs,” said Carr. “By making strategic investments like this, along with action items in the Labour Force and Skills Development Strategy, it is clear that our government's plan to rebuild New Brunswick is working.”

Under the initiative, eligible New Brunswick businesses receive a one-year wage incentive when they hire a permanent, full-time employee who graduated from a post-secondary institution in the past four years. These businesses must pay a minimum salary of $14 per hour. The initiative will allow for the reimbursement of 70 per cent of the salary to a maximum of $10 per hour for 52 weeks.

One-Job Pledge is part of the Workforce Expansion Program administered by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour.

The Workforce Expansion Program is one of several initiatives made possible through the Canada-New Brunswick Labour Market Development Agreement and the Canada-New Brunswick Labour Market Agreement. More information is available by calling the nearest provincial employment office or by going online.
