FREDERICTON (GNB) – The official opening of an exhibit of interdisciplinary artwork by eight graduate students at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in Fredericton.

The exhibit, called SPIRITUS, will be on display daily, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., until Sept. 12 at The Gallery of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, 457 Queen St., Fredericton.

"The exhibit will feature textile design and wearable art, theatre and Renaissance costume design and production, fine craft design in ceramics, jewellery, metal arts, drawing and painting," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. "The graduating students each have a unique, style and this annual exhibit is a terrific opportunity to showcase the newest wave of New Brunswick's artistic talent."

The Graduate Studies program, now in its sixth year, is an innovative one-year certificate program exclusive to the college. Designed to foster advanced research into professional theory and practice, it provides a framework for fine craft, design and entrepreneurial skill development, and in the process, leads to a professional body of work to help launch successful careers in art, craft, design or new media.

"We are proud of this year's emerging professionals, and I encourage New Brunswickers to visit the gallery to support them and view their exceptional work," added Soucy.

The students spent an additional year at the college, honing their craft and developing a career action plan. The program has given them the opportunity to bridge the gap between skill-building and career-building in the visual arts.
