FREDERICTON (GNB) – An employment survey shows that high numbers of recent graduates from New Brunswick's community colleges are succeeding in finding work in the province.

“Historically, our colleges have been shown to be highly effective at training New Brunswickers for the needs of the labour market,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. “Our government is fostering the economic climate for job creators, and we are moving in sync with these investments, which is demonstrated by the high percentage of graduates finding employment here in the province.”

The employment rate for graduates in the 2012 reference week one year following graduation was 87 per cent for both the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) and for le Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB).

The survey found that among those employed, 90 per cent of NBCC and 91 per cent of CCNB graduates were working within the province.

The level of related employment in the reference week was 80 per cent for the CCNB and 78 per cent for NBCC.

“This is a long-standing survey that helps us calibrate our programs with the needs of both employers and students,” said NBCC president and chief executive officer Marilyn Luscombe. “This is an important measure that aids in planning our programs.”

The survey has been conducted since 1983 and this year was completed by the independent research company Advanis Jolicoeur.

“The survey results are one more example of how effectively we are preparing New Brunswickers for the labour market,” said CCNB president and chief executive officer Liane Roy. “Our students graduate with the skills necessary to be successful in securing employment.”
