FREDERICTON (GNB) – Students seeking a job for this summer may now apply to the Student Employment and Experience Development (SEED) program.

"Our students and employers benefit in many ways from summer employment," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. "Our continued support of the SEED program is one way we are improving workforce readiness and rebuilding our economy. This program provides the opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience while earning and saving for their studies. At the same time, the funding helps eligible employers to provide these opportunities."

The provincially funded program provides jobs to eligible students in provincial government departments and agencies; municipal and First Nations offices; and non-profit organizations. It gives employers with a supplement equal to the minimum wage rate per hour to help students gain work experience while earning a living.

A student entrepreneurship component of the program provides assistance to those wanting to start a summer business. It includes an interest-free loan of up to $3,000. If the loan is repaid on time and all program requirements are met, the student may qualify for a reimbursement of one-third of the loan.

Applications are available at university campuses, community colleges, high schools, regional offices of the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, human resource services centres and Service New Brunswick.
