FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has awarded the Golden Jubilee Scholarship to four students; one enrolled in each of New Brunswick's public universities. The scholarship, valued at $5,000 per recipient, helps cover education-related expenses.

"I congratulate this year's recipients, and I am proud to recognize their academic excellence through this financial incentive," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Danny Soucy. "One way our government is bolstering a skilled labour market and rebuilding our economy is through helping students access and obtain post-secondary credentials."

The recipients are:

●    Samantha Burns, Bachelor of Arts (psychology), Université de Moncton;
●    Robyn Ashley LeBlanc, Bachelor of Arts (honours in sociology), Mount Allison University;
●    Amanda M. Murphy, Bachelor of Nursing, University of New Brunswick; and
●    Sarah Peel, Bachelor of Arts (majors in history and English), St. Thomas University.

The provincial government established the scholarships in 2002 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

The provincial government provides $20,000 per year through this scholarship fund. Only four students, one from each public university in New Brunswick, in their last year of study, are selected, based on academic excellence.
