FREDERICTON (GNB) - Eighty-eight per cent of graduates from the province's publicly-funded universities are working two years after graduation, according to a statistical profile released today.

The Statistical Profile of New Brunswick's Publicly-Funded Universities also found the average salary for university graduates who are working in the province was almost $48,000 and that about 80 per cent of New Brunswick residents who graduated were still in the province two years later.

"This profile provides a baseline by which to measure progress in years to come," said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Coulombe, "It gives us a valuable tool to help us rebuild and strengthen post-secondary education institutions and policies, which is a priority as noted in our government's Economic Development Action Plan."

The profile included Mount Allison University, the Université de Moncton, St. Thomas University and the University of New Brunswick and was compiled by the department using data from the universities and from the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission.

Information on credentials offered at institutions, faculty salaries, expenditures, and research income is also included in the profile.

"I was particularly pleased to see the impressive results with respect to how satisfied graduates are with the quality of their university education," said Coulombe, "The profile shows that 93 per cent of the graduates were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of teaching."
