FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswick will be showcased as a tourism destination of choice and a great place in which to live and do business thanks to the active participation of several departments and many partners at the Saltscapes Toronto Expo from June 21 to 24.

Saltscapes is a lifestyle show that takes place at the Toronto Harbourfront Center as part of the Toronto Red Path Festival. The show is expected to attract between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors each day.

Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living Minister Trevor Holder and Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Martine Coulombe will lead a contingent of tourism operators, industry partners and exhibitors who will bring a taste of New Brunswick life and opportunities to the Toronto marketplace.

"The Toronto region is already one of our key markets where we actively promote the province as a tourism destination," said Holder. "Torontonians come to New Brunswick because we offer a more relaxed pace and a variety of experiences that appeal to them, including cultural activities and exploring natural wonders. Participating in this expo will help increase the number of visitors from the Toronto region this year and in the future."

The provincial government is also working to attract people to the province by promoting its quality of life.

"Thousands of New Brunswick expatriates live in large centers such as Toronto, but have never forgotten their roots," Coulombe said. "We are working to keep that East-Coast connection alive and even bring some New Brunswickers home."

The expo will also provide opportunities to showcase New Brunswick products, including local seafood, the maple sugar industry and the cottage industry. A Media and Trade day will include opportunities for industry leaders, government officials and entrepreneurs to speak directly to retail and restaurant procurement specialists and travel agents to encourage purchasing New Brunswick products and to increase the province’s profile through media coverage.

There are 25 New Brunswick industry partners that will be exhibitors and participants. Chefs from the province will prepare local seafood and delicacies and participate in live cooking events throughout the event and New Brunswick musicians will perform over the course of the expo.

A University of New Brunswick Alumni Reception will also take place at the expo, adding an extra opportunity for Coulombe and Holder to promote the province as a place to visit, conduct business and live.
