FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is seeking candidates to serve on an independent forum to advance equality and improve the lives of women and girls.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Marie-Claude Blais, who is also minister responsible for women's equality, announced today that the provincial government is seeking a minimum of 12 candidates to participate in the Voices of New Brunswick Women Consensus-Building Forum. The forum will provide advice to the provincial government on matters of interest to women while bringing issues to public attention.

 “We are proud to provide the women of New Brunswick with an independent forum to ensure their voices continue to be heard,” said Blais. “The provincial government is looking forward to working with the forum to ensure that women's voices are heard so that we can work toward a future where the women and men of New Brunswick are all equal.”

The forum is the result of the Women's Summit in 2011 and meetings held during the last year between the provincial government and the Voices of New Brunswick Women Working Group. Membership will consist of representatives from women's groups and organizations mandated to work on matters of interest to women. Membership may also include individuals representing specific areas of interest to women where no group or organization currently exists.

Applicants must be women, residents of New Brunswick, and support the objectives and principles of women's equality. Interested organizations or individuals are invited to fill out an application form demonstrating how they meet the selection criteria for the forum.
