FREDERICTON (GNB) – A record 253 new one-acre Crown land camp lots throughout New Brunswick are being made available to the public in addition to 60 existing lots.

New Brunswickers may apply to the department, listing their top eight preferred sites. A draw system will determine if their application is successful.

“I am pleased that our department is able to make these lots available,” said Natural Resources Minister Denis Landry. “Helping New Brunswick families is one of our key priorities and these lots will go a long way towards providing families with access to the outdoors for hunting, fishing and other recreational activities. Also, the revenue generated from the leases will be one more step in our government’s efforts to get our fiscal house in order.”

There are currently 2,750 camp lots on Crown lands which generate $1.15 million in revenue annually for the government. Annual rent is currently $320 for upland lots and $640 for waterfront lots.

A map showing all of the new camp lots is available online. Interested individuals  may visit specific lots, each of which has been marked with identifying ribbons.

Interested New Brunswickers have four weeks from today to apply for a camp lot site. The draw results will be announced on Oct. 23. Successful applicants will then have 30 days to register and pay the fees associated with the lots. If they fail to do so, a second draw will be held for all lots which have not been picked up.

“We hope that many New Brunswickers will take advantage of these properties,” Landry said. “It is another way for people in our province to enjoy our great outdoor resources.”
