FREDERICTON (GNB) – Residents of local service districts in the Greater Fredericton region and the southern part of the province are advised that special pickups of flood debris will conclude soon.
In southern New Brunswick, including the Sussex, Kingston, Hampton and Saint John regions, the final pickup will be on Friday, June 29.
For residents in the Greater Fredericton and Grand Lake regions, the final pickup will be on Friday, July 6.
Local landfills listed below will continue to accept flood debris at no charge until Saturday, July 28. People dropping off debris should check each facility’s hours of operation, as well as the schedule for Household Hazardous Waste Days, and inform staff at the gate that they are disposing of flood-damaged items.
Household hazardous waste generated by the flood can also be taken at these facilities.
Residents taking advantage of special pickups are reminded to bring their debris to the roadside. Accepted waste includes appliances (remove doors and covers for safety), furniture, carpeting, insulation, paper products, construction debris, etc.
Waste should be separated as follows:
- small loose items – bagged or boxed
- larger construction debris (lumber/concrete blocks/shingles)
- mattresses
- appliances
Hazardous materials (i.e. petroleum and propane tanks, chemical containers, dead animal carcasses, etc.) will not be accepted. Avoid contact with any hazardous material.
Regular household waste will be collected as usual, and should be placed separately from flood-related items.
