FREDERICTON (CNB) – A Fredericton company, Caldwell and Ross, has been awarded the $13.9 million contract to construct a new bridge to replace the current one linking Fort Kent, Maine, and Clair, New Brunswick.

“Now that the tendering process is complete, the project can move forward,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. “Depending upon the weather, we expect the contractor to begin working April 30 and to complete construction in 2014.”

Last year, the provincial government committed to work with the State of Maine to replace the bridge which crosses the St. John River. The project consists of the construction of a four-span, steel-beam bridge, including three in-river piers and two abutments.

The project cost, including removal of the existing structure, will be shared between New Brunswick and Maine.
