Overview
Leasing angling water to the public by means of public auctions.
Eligibility
Lessees are required to provide warden protection and provide additional staff. They are also required to pay property taxes and an annual rental fee which is determined by the auction. There is no provincially owned on-shore infrastructure, such as lodges, associated with the Crown angling leases. However, there are privately owned lodges and other infrastructure on many of the sites. In those cases, lease holders must also pay the province to lease Crown land on which a structure is located as well as related property taxes.
Description
New Brunswick has been leasing angling water to the public since 1883, with public auctions used to allocate the leases.
In March the Department held an angling auction for prime fishing locations along some of New Brunswick's Atlantic salmon and trout waters. The auction took place on March 13, 2013. The results will be posted as soon as they become available.
The 16 river leases up for auction totalled 155 km in length and included some of the best Atlantic salmon angling in New Brunswick. Of the 16 leases, ten are located in the Restigouche drainage, five in the Miramichi drainage, and one in the Tabusintac drainage. The remaining lease is for Dicks Lake in Kings County.
Depending on the specific location, minimum lease prices range from $2,900 to $87,300 annually, excluding property taxes, and increase annually at the rate of inflation.Important notice to live auction bidders
Parties interested in participating in the live auction on March 13 must register in advance. Parties can pre-register now by completing the registration online or register beginning at 9 a.m. on the morning of the live auction.
Anyone registering the morning of the live auction will be required to provide:
• Valid photo identification; and
• A credit card, to which $9,500 will be charged as a security deposit, or a bank guarantee. Note, a credit card deposit may be required in addition to a bank guarantee.
