Overview

Effective January 1, 2014, the Out-of-Province Apprenticeship Strategy aims to facilitate apprentices working outside of New Brunswick by enabling residents of the province to (a) register into a New Brunswick apprenticeship program and work out-of-province for an out-of-province employer, (b) accumulate working hours while out-of-province which will be credited towards the required hours for completion, and (c) attend technical training in New Brunswick.

Eligibility

- The individual is a registered apprentice in the Province of NB.
- The apprentice MUST retain a permanent NB address.
- The apprentice is working with a journeyperson who is certified under the NB Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act.
- The provincial Apprenticeship Authority for the province where the apprentice will be working confirms the out-of-province employer is in good standing with the Apprenticeship Authority’s legislation.

Description

NB resident can register into the NB apprenticeship program and work out-of-province for an out-of province employer providing:
• The apprentice retains a permanent NB address.
• The apprentice is working with a journeyperson who is certified under the NB Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act.
• The provincial Apprenticeship Authority for the province where the apprentice will be working confirms the out-of-province employer is in good standing with the Apprenticeship Authority’s legislation.

The apprentice can accumulate working hours while out of province which will be credited towards the required hours for completion providing:
- The apprentice maintains an up-to-date NB Progress Record Booklet, and
- The hours worked are supported by a Record of Employment and
- The apprentice is receiving ample coverage of the scope of the trade and
- The Progress Record Book is up-to-date and shows progression through the practical skills.

The apprentice can attend technical training (block release) in New Brunswick.
