Overview

Academic upgrading courses or personal learning programs provide training opportunities to adults. These programs are offered free of charge in communities around the province and are available in either English or French, depending upon the needs of the community. Programs are administered through a partnership with the Community Adult Learning Network (CALNet).

These programs are open to adults 18 years of age and over.

Description

The academic upgrading courses and personal learning programs provide training to help learners acquire basic knowledge and skills to strengthen their literacy skills. Learners may begin training at any time during the program year as an opening is available and as their schedule permits. Hours of training per week can vary depending on individual needs and circumstances. Each program has one or more computers with Internet access.

The academic upgrading program features an individualized, learner-centered approach. Individual learner assessment, curriculum and assessment services are available. An adult learner may use this training to go on to attain their GED diploma or to meet a personal learning goal.

Academic upgrading programs include (in both French and English):

- Math at Level 1 or Level 2 Courses
- English/French at Level 1 or 2 Courses
- GED Preparation Courses
