FREDERICTON (GNB) – Twelve regional heritage fairs will take place throughout New Brunswick in April and May.

“It is important for the next generation to understand the people and events that shaped our country’s history,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Bill Fraser. “Regional heritage fairs are wonderful opportunities for students to creatively show the importance of preserving our collective history.”

Students from more than 140 participating schools will come together at the regional heritage fairs to present hands-on, multi-media presentations about Canadian people, legends, milestones and achievements.

“Heritage fairs provide opportunities for young New Brunswickers to learn about some of the men and women who have shaped our beautiful province and helped make it the best place to raise a family,” said Fraser. “I also remind New Brunswickers that our country will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2017, so 2016 is a big year to get ready and to celebrate.”

Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau is the honorary patron of heritage fairs in New Brunswick.
