RED DEER, Alta. (GNB) – New Brunswick’s men’s short-track team earned bronze in the 3,000-metre event on Friday, Feb. 22, at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

The bronze medal performance lifts Team Brunswick’s medal count to three on the final day of the first week of competition.

The men’s short-track 3,000-metre team composed of Anthony Cormier Losier, Colton Gough, Tyler MaGee and Conor Murray placed third in the A final after Team British Columbia was disqualified for an illegal relay in the four-team final.

“It was a great first week of competition for our team,” said chef de mission Nicole Smith. “We look forward to carrying the momentum into week two.”

The ringette team finished in fifth place overall following Friday’s 8-3 victory over Team Nova Scotia. Britney Snowdon netted a seven-point performance, scoring five goals and assisting on two goals.

Men’s hockey finished the games in eighth place. New Brunswick lost 7-2 to British Columbia on Friday.

Saturday is turnaround day: week one participants head home to New Brunswick and week two athletes arrive in Alberta in the afternoon.

Athletes will perform in alpine skiing, archery, badminton, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, trampoline, women’s hockey, judo and squash.
