PRINCE WILLIAM (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $300,000 into a new residence facility at Kings Landing for the 2019 Tourism Season.

“Kings Landing plays an important role in preserving New Brunswick’s history and culture,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “Providing a unique perspective into our past, the investment in the Kings Landing residence will ensure summer program participants are fully immersed in the experience of 19th century living in New Brunswick.”

The residence will include a commercial kitchen, a grand room, office space as well as direct access to the village. It will support the Visiting Cousins program which has been in operation for more than 40 years. Due in large part to support from donors and service clubs, the Kings Landing Foundation offers annual registration fee subsidies to about 14 children, who may not otherwise be able to attend.

“This is an exciting new project that will better serve our summer program participants as well as better accommodate visiting students, historians, artists and guests for future programs,” said Kings Landing CEO Kevin Cormier. “We are very thankful for the support of both the government and the Kings Landing Foundation for making this worthwhile project possible.”

Construction for the new residence will begin in a few weeks to be ready in time for the 2019 tourism season.

Kings Landing is a 300-acre heritage site which highlights original buildings and artefacts from the period of 1820-1920s. Each year, visitors to Kings Landing discover New Brunswick's history through storytelling and by exploring the various exhibits, workshops and theatrical shows.
