PRINCE WILLIAM (GNB) – A spring tradition at Kings Landing will reach a special milestone this month. The historical settlement will hold its 35th annual sugar bush event on March 10 and 11, and March 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
“The sugar bush experience really represents the start of spring for many guests to our museum,” said Kings Landing CEO Kevin Cormier. “If you are looking for an activity for the family, have an interest in discovering your own past, or if you just want a reason to get outside, the sugar bush weekends are perfect for all ages.”
A pancake breakfast will be served each day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with proceeds supporting York-Sunbury Search and Rescue. Admission to the breakfast is $11 per adult and $8 per child.
“The annual sugar bush event is a major fundraiser for York-Sunbury Search and Rescue,” said Greg Smith, the organization’s public relations representative. “It is a very fun event for everyone involved and a tradition for many families over the years. We hope our 2018 sugar bush is filled with good food, conversation and many smiles.”
Kings Landing has activities planned for both weekends, including an encampment in partnership with Scouts Canada, snowshoeing, traditional cooking and children’s activities at the King’s Head Inn, and, weather permitting, even sleigh rides.
The highlight for many will be the 19th-century sugaring demonstration with the sweet taste of maple candy on the snow.
Admission fees to the village activities are $12 per family, $7 per adult and $3.50 per child. Those who purchase a season pass before or during the sugar bush event can enter the sugar bush event free. Maple candy on the snow will be sold for $2 per stick.
