ST. STEPHEN (GNB) – The provincial government officially opened its new Visitor Information Centre in St. Stephen today.

“Tourism is an important economic driver that helps move New Brunswick forward,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “It is important to offer services to our guests when they enter the province in a way that meets their needs as effectively as possible.”

The goal was to create a new model gateway Visitor Information Centre using the best technology and design. The new centre will help visitors obtain the information they need to plan and enjoy the unique and authentic experiences that New Brunswick has to offer.

The tourism industry generates more than $1 billion in visitor spending each year and is critical to the province’s heritage, culture, recreation and entertainment industries.

“I thank Irving Oil for its partnership in this project,” said Ames. “The company has been a partner with government for years and is an important economic leader in our province. This partnership will help us to achieve our common goals which are to grow our economy, create jobs and help our families.”
