ST. STEPHEN (GNB) – The provincial government is partnering with Irving Oil on the location of the new Visitor Information Centre in St. Stephen.

The new centre will occupy 180 sq. metres (2,000 sq. feet) of space in a development to be located at the site of the former Department of Transportation and Infrastructure garage.

“Our government is pleased to partner with Irving Oil to provide visitors with a one-stop option to purchase fuel and gather visitor information,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Bill Fraser. “This new site ensures the best location for providing services to visitors following the new routing of Highway 1 at the Maine border.”

The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture will work with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and Irving Oil to create the layout, design, technology and décor for the new centre.

“The goal is to create a new model gateway Visitor Information Centre using the best technology and design for today’s traveler,” said Fraser. “The new design will help visitors see that our province is an exceptional destination that is big enough to deliver world class tourism and small enough to care.”

Tourism is an important economic driver that helps move New Brunswick forward. For every dollar invested in promoting the province as a tourism destination, there is a return of $3.50 that can be invested towards job creation and helping families.

The new Visitor Information Centre will open for the 2016 tourism season.
