FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Town of Hartland has been chosen to host the province’s official 2015 New Brunswick Day celebrations to be held on Monday, Aug. 3.

“New Brunswick Day is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the place we call home,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “I am confident the 2015 New Brunswick Day celebrations in Hartland will be a great occasion.”

Hartland is known for being home to the longest covered bridge in the world. The 384.6 meter (1,282 foot) bridge was originally constructed by the Hartland Bridge Co. and officially opened July 4, 1901.

The historic bridge is a main tourism icon in the St. John River Valley, attracting visitors from around the globe.

“It is important that we celebrate what makes our province a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said Gallant. “I encourage the people of New Brunswick to join together in Hartland as we honour and recognize the history of our province which includes the 50th anniversary of our flag.”

New Brunswick Day has been celebrated since 1976. An official host community has been chosen since 1990.
