FREDERICTON (GNB) – In celebration of New Brunswick's rich automotive history, and at the request of the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada, Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder has declared July Automotive Heritage Month.

"Today, I am happy to publicly acknowledge the past and present contributions of Canadians to the economic, social and cultural development of the province and I am pleased to recognize the month of July as Automotive Heritage Month in the province of New Brunswick," said Holder. "Through this declaration, we are able to remember the importance of the automobile to our society, acknowledge the important role of automobile clubs and celebrate their success."

New Brunswick has many active clubs. Some are vehicle specific such as Studebakers, foreign sport cars, hotrods, antiques, classics, corvettes and general clubs that include all vehicles. In addition to clubs, there are also individuals who have restored a favorite model from their past.

All makes and models can be seen at shows taking place during the month of July. The biggest will be the Atlantic Nationals in Moncton July 10-13. Many activities are planned for the month of July by various provincial clubs. The N.B. Antique Auto Club has a new website that provides a list of all club activities taking place during this period.

"Celebrating the automobile's heritage and impact on our lifestyle helps us remember the impact automobiles have had on the history of travel, vacationing and our changing lifestyles," said Holder. "I encourage all New Brunswickers to take part in the recognition of our province's automotive heritage."
