RED DEER, Alta. (GNB) – Boxer Isaiah Haya struck gold on Wednesday, Feb. 20, earning Team New Brunswick’s first medal of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta.

Haya defeated Tiago Balteiro of Ontario to claim his medal.

Team New Brunswick could earn its second medal of the games on Thursday evening when the wheelchair basketball team tips off against Team Quebec in the bronze-medal match. New Brunswick lost 56-37 against host Alberta on Wednesday afternoon.

The ringette team heads to the placement round on Thursday, following a 4-3 loss to British Columbia on Wednesday. They will face either Ontario or host Alberta.

Artistic swimmers will head to the Calgary pool for the solo and team free finals.

In biathlon, Team New Brunswick biathletes will return to the trails for their final event of the games, the 10-kilometre female and 12.5-kilometre male.

Short-track speedskaters will return to the ice for the morning 1,000-metre event. Long-track speedskaters will participate in Thursday’s mass start.
