PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Para Nordic skier Louis Fortin claimed a gold medal in the 1.2 kilometre para Nordic classic race, Tuesday at the Canada Winter Games.

"Going down the final hill we both fell, I got up as fast as I could so he (my opponent) wouldn't pass me," Fortin said after the victory.

It's Fortin's second medal in consecutive days after claiming silver Monday in the 2.5 kilometre para standing. He also won two silver medals at the 2001 Canada Winter Games. Fortin and his opponent from British Columbia both fell about 200m from the finish line.

Tuesday's medal win lifts New Brunswick's medal count‎ to nine at the Canada Winter Games. Fortin and his cross-country teammates return to the trails on Thursday.

Andrew Polegato, of Beaverdam, Noah McCoy, of Beaverdam, Melli Adam-Reimer, of Fredericton, and Mélisande Logelin, of Dieppe and all the other competitors in trampoline made history as the sport made its Canada Games debut.

Poelgato was the top New Brunswicker in the individual male competition, advancing to the final round. He finished fifth. The women’s individual competition’s saw Melli Adam-Reimer, of Fredericton, finish seventh overall in the first-ever trampoline competition.

Lissa Anne McGaghey, of Campbellton, sits in third spot in the women’s single novice category, following her short program performance. Lexi McGrath, of Dieppe, is in 12th spot. Both McGrath and McGaghey skate their respective free programs on Thursday.

In curling, the Fredericton foursome of Brigitte Comeau, Justine Comeau, Emma LeBlanc and Keira McLaughlin defeated Team Manitoba 11-0 in a late evening draw.

The men’s hockey team lost 4-2 to Team Manitoba in a late match.

The synchronized swimming team hit the pool Tuesday, participating in figures. They were to return to the pool later in the evening for the solo preliminaries.

The men’s squash team competition lost twice Tuesday, dropping matches to Team Saskatchewan and Team Quebec. In women’s team play, Team New Brunswick lost 4-0 to host Team British Columbia.
