FREDERICTON (GNB) – The contract to build a 60-bed nursing home in Fredericton has been awarded to Shannex Inc.

“I am proud to see this project continue to move forward,” said deputy premier Stephen Horsman. “This is great news for Fredericton-area seniors. It will help us ensure that our seniors receive the quality care they deserve.”

The company was selected after an open procurement process that began in early 2017. The nursing home will be built off Cliffe Street, on Fredericton’s north side.

“We look forward to bringing quality services and accommodation to seniors on Fredericton’s north side,” said Shannex president and CEO Jason Shannon. “This new nursing home will improve care for seniors, and we are pleased to play a role.”

Fostering healthy aging and support for seniors is one of the seven priority areas outlined in the New Brunswick Family Plan framework, which also focuses government action on: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with addictions and mental health challenges; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty and providing support for people living with a disability.
