FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Families and Children Minister Stephen Horsman in recognition of International Volunteer Day, Dec. 5:

In celebration of the United Nations’ International Volunteer Day, I encourage all New Brunswickers to take the time to recognize and thank the thousands of volunteers across our region, province and country.

Volunteers play a key role in the lives of many. They often work behind the scenes and might miss out on the recognition they deserve. By donating their time, energy and skills, these selfless individuals are making our province a better place to live and raise a family.

International Volunteer Day comes at an important time of year, with the holiday season beginning, providing us with a reminder to reach out to those in need.

To all those taking part in volunteer activities, let me offer my thanks and gratitude for your contribution to our province. I encourage all New Brunswickers to volunteer in some way this holiday season and in the coming year. This is the season for giving, and there is no better way to do so than by giving back to your community and those in need.

I ask everyone to take the time to acknowledge the contributions of our volunteers in making New Brunswick such a wonderful place to live.
