FREDERICTON (GNB) – Today marks the third annual Children and Youth in Care Day in New Brunswick.

“It is important for children and youth in care to have a day of recognition,” said Families and Children Minister Stephen Horsman. “Today is about taking the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and achievements, and to raise awareness of the unique issues and challenges they face.”

Nov. 29 was declared the annual day of recognition for children and youth in care two years ago in response to recommendations in the report A Long Road Home: An account of the first ever New Brunswick Youth in Care Hearings. The date was chosen in co-operation with the New Brunswick Youth in Care Network.

In recognition of children and youth in care, a number of celebrations and activities will be taking place around the province.
