FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued by Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé in recognition of Special Care Home Week, Aug. 17-23:

Special Care Home Week recognizes the important role these facilities and their staff provide to the thousands of seniors and adults with disabilities in the province of New Brunswick.

Special care homes are a valuable part of our long-term care system and play a key role in our society. By delivering services to clients throughout the province – more than half of whom are seniors – these facilities provide residents with high-quality services and ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

I applaud the staff and operators of special care homes across the province for the work ethic, commitment and dedication they demonstrate on a daily basis.

Many special care homes will be celebrating with different events. This week provides families, community members and others a chance to show their support and respect to the staff who dedicate their lives to working with our seniors and adults with disabilities. Their effort is sincerely appreciated.
