FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé in observance of Nursing Home Week, June 1-7:

Across New Brunswick there are 65 nursing homes where staff, administration and volunteers are dedicated to providing a home away from home for seniors, complete with a welcoming atmosphere and engaging activities.

Nursing Home week is an excellent opportunity to recognize and applaud the high quality of care provided by nursing home employees, the administration and volunteers.

Caring for our seniors is a responsibility our government takes seriously. We recognize and acknowledge the important role nursing homes play in the community and in the provision of long-term care services in the province.

As our government and the nursing home sector work together to modernize nursing homes, we are seeing an improvement in services for residents.

By supporting the use of new technologies and with investments in our nursing home renovation and replacement plan, under which 354 nursing home beds are being created, our seniors continue to receive the high quality care they and their families expect today and in the future.

I encourage all New Brunswickers to take the time to recognize and appreciate the important role that nursing homes and their employees play in the provision of long-term care services in the province.
