TRACADIE-SHEILA (GNB) – Residents and community members joined with provincial representatives today to celebrate the official opening of the Villa Saint-Joseph in Tracadie-Sheila.

The $22.9-million nursing home, on Saulnier Street West, has 74 beds, 10 more than its predecessor.

“Providing seniors with good quality care and opportunities to continue contributing to the communities they built is a key part of our government's plan to rebuild New Brunswick,” said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé. “Villa Saint-Joseph provides our seniors with an enhanced quality of life in their community.”

The nursing home is energy efficient, has new equipment, better ventilation and provides more space and privacy for residents than the previous 40-year-old facility. The communal area provides space for a variety of activities and services aimed at providing an enhanced quality of life for the residents.

“Villa Saint-Joseph is a wonderful asset to the area of Tracadie-Sheila,” said Dubé. “Having this facility in the community enables seniors to have access to the care and support they need close to home, family and friends.”

The provincial government is committed to investing and making improvements in nursing home infrastructure. The 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan provides for the creation of 354 nursing-home beds and 704 specialized-care beds.
