FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé in observance of Nursing Home Week, June 2-8:

Nursing Home Week is a wonderful opportunity for all New Brunswickers to learn more about the importance of nursing homes in our communities and to better understand their role in the province's long-term care system.

Nursing homes provide a home-away-from-home for our seniors and support the families of residents who depend on these facilities to care for their loved ones. This special week is also a chance to say thank you to the employees and the many volunteers who help our seniors every day.

As our aging population continues to increase, nursing homes will continue to play a valuable role in our society in the coming years.

In New Brunswick, we are fortunate to count on thousands of employees who are dedicated and committed to providing our seniors with the quality care they need and the dignity and respect they deserve.

Many nursing homes across the province will hold events to celebrate Nursing Home Week.  I encourage all New Brunswickers to visit a nursing home in their community to thank the staff and volunteers for providing our seniors with care and attention they so rightly deserve.
