NAPAN (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing close to $1 million in the Napan Agricultural Show Inc. to help expand the fairground structure.

“This is an important infrastructure project for Miramichi and surrounding areas,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “The Napan Agricultural Show has a long and rich history. These types of investments help communities to grow strong.”

“The Government of Canada knows that investing in infrastructure helps communities thrive and creates good, well-paying jobs that help the middle class grow and prosper,” said Miramichi-Grand Lake MP Pat Finnigan. “These infrastructure improvements to the Napan Agricultural Show grounds will enhance community events and promote an increase in tourism opportunities, all of which represent important steps toward strengthening the local economy, supporting quality of life, and promoting growth and prosperity in this region.”

Finnigan attended for federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The federal government is providing $498,400 through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, while the provincial government is investing $498,400 through the Regional Development Corporation.

“We are excited to accept the contributions from ACOA and the Regional Development Commission to move forward with our new building,” said Allen Gilliss, director of Napan Agricultural Show Inc. “The community will benefit from all the new events that will take place under the roof.”

The investments support the construction of a steel-covered ring at the show grounds which will include optional-use curtains. The project will provide adaptable space and the capacity to host larger outdoor events in the rural community.
