TRACADIE (GNB) – Construction has begun on the new $5.8-million Armand-Lavoie Amphitheatre, which is being built beside the Polyvalente W.-Arthur-Losier school in Tracadie.

“We know how important economic growth and job creation is to New Brunswickers,” said Tracadie-Sheila MLA Serge Rousselle. “I am very excited that the construction has begun and our community will have this fantastic place where local artists can showcase their talents and culture while spurring economic growth right here in the Acadian Peninsula.”

Rousselle attended for Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“Cultural and recreational infrastructure make our communities places where families play together, where neighbours gather, and where Canadians celebrate the many cultures that make up our country,” said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier. “A new amphitheatre in Tracadie will also attract more visitors and create more opportunities for people to work and enjoy our city.”

Cormier attended for federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

Once completed, the amphitheatre will have permanent seating for 502 people. It will be built to meet professional industry standards, in order to meet artistic requirements, and will include a ticketing booth, dressing rooms, a canteen area and a lobby.

“The Regional Municipality of Tracadie is very proud to contribute to this important project that will provide different artistic and cultural activities for our community,” said Tracadie Mayor Denis Losier. “We have been dreaming about this amphitheatre for years. Today, our dreams are becoming a reality.”

“The Société culturelle des Tracadilles is proud to take part in this great, much- anticipated project for our community,” said society president Marie Ève Michon. “We look forward to presenting high-quality cultural programming in our new professional amphitheatre.”

Investments in the project were announced by the provincial, federal and municipal governments in April 2017. Additional funding is being provided by a community committee.
