MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are investing a combined $163,000 in infrastructure upgrades at the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club.

“Your government understands how important creating jobs, growing the economy and securing health care and education are to New Brunswickers and their families,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “With the recent upgrades to the Miramichi boat club, it allows more boaters from all over to enjoy the beautiful Miramichi River.”

Improvements included the excavation and expansion of the inner basin, dock upgrades and the installation of power pedestals to provide electricity to docking vessels.

“Canada’s economic success comes from its strong communities and the exceptional people who live, work and serve in them every day,” said Miramichi-Grand Lake MP Pat Finnigan. “Projects like this one with the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club ensure that our communities are better places to live and raise our families.”

Finnigan attended for federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also the minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

The provincial government, through the Regional Development Corporation, invested $73,000 in the project while the federal government invested $90,000 and the City of Miramichi contributed $50,000.

"The City of Miramichi is very pleased to see the work at the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club completed and to have partnered with both the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick to make it happen,” said Mayor Adam Lordon. “One of our priorities as a city is the continued development of our waterfronts and river for recreational use, and, because of exciting projects like the renewal of this marina, we have continued to see momentum and growth in this area.”

“I want to thank all three levels of government for their investments in the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club,” said Joey MacDonald, commodore for the club. “The upgrades have allowed us to expand our services to our members and recreational boaters who are boating by the Miramichi Bay.”
