CAMPBELLTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $200,000 in the construction of a new synthetic turf sports field in Campbellton next to Le Galion des Appalaches school.

“This field will be an important asset to the entire community as it will be used to promote healthy living for residents, students and families and host school and other important sporting events in Campbellton and the Restigouche region,” said Labour, Employment and Population Growth Minister Gilles LePage.

LePage spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“For us, the parents of students at Le Galion des Appalaches, believing in youth development also means believing in the future,” said Caroline Dinel, chair of the school’s parent committee. “Thanks to our partners’ generosity, we will be able to provide the best for our children.”

Work on the $750,000 project has begun and will be completed in 2018.

“The provincial government’s contribution, and the contributions of our numerous partners, will allow us to pursue our vision of improving the learning environment for our students and our community,” said Ghislaine Foulem, chair of the Francophone nord-est school district education council.

The government’s contribution comes from the Regional Development Corporation. The remaining $550,000 needed for the project will come from the community, including contributions from:
