ST. STEPHEN (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $100,000 in a restoration project at the former railway station in St. Stephen.

“Our government’s investment in the former railway station will help preserve this historic building for many years to come,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames.

Ames spoke on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“The Town of St. Stephen is pleased to partner with the Regional Development Corporation in order to re-purpose a heritage building in our community,” said Mayor Allan MacEachern. “The railway station will be restored, and we will create a unique space for two new businesses in our town. St. Stephen is a growing community and worthy of investment.”

Funding through the Regional Development Corporation will be used toward a $370,000 renovation project for the building. The project includes: roofing, heating, utilities and leasehold improvements.
