UPPER MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments are partnering to help the Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s museum upgrade its facilities.

“We are proud to do our part as the Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s Museum continues to highlight the important role forestry has played in our region,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is also minister responsible for the Northern and Miramichi funds. “We are honouring that tradition by making investments that will help enhance the visitor experience to attract tourists and visitors to the Miramichi region.”

The provincial government is investing $68,181 and the federal government is providing $68,796. This investment will help the museum to upgrade the main building’s entrance, washrooms, roof and existing heating system and repair the Quonset Huts (exhibit halls) and roof, and to improve the museum’s energy efficiency to help reduce operating costs.

“The Central New Brunswick Woodmen’s Museum has been educating residents and visitors alike on Boiestown’s rich lumbering industry for over 35 years,” said Miramichi-Grand Lake MP Pat Finnigan. “I am pleased that the Government of Canada is supporting this project that will enable the museum to complete the renovations that are needed to operate more cost-efficiently and continue to attract visitors to our beautiful region.”

Finnigan attended the event for the federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

“We are grateful for this partnership as it will allow the museum to upgrade its main building and the original Quonset Huts so that we can continue to preserve and promote the history of lumbering for future generations,” said Harold Fairley, president of the museum.
