FREDERICTON (GNB) – A new set of provincial government guidelines for investing in recreation infrastructure was released today.

“As our government considers making strategic investments in recreation infrastructure projects, we developed these guidelines to ensure we take a consistent approach to funding,” said Health Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

Under the management of the Regional Development Corporation, municipalities, regional services commissions and not-for-profit corporations are eligible to submit applications for funding consideration.

“We must ensure we get a return on our investment,” said Boudreau.

Applicants seeking funding for recreation infrastructure projects must submit an application with several criteria including: a needs assessment; business plan; sustainable without continued government assistance; provide success indicators and measurable economic benefits; reasonable payback and return on investment for the provincial government; demonstrate that all required financing is in place prior to the Regional Development Corporation advancing funds; leverage funding and/or investments from federal, local and/or private sources.
