TRACADIE-SHEILA (CNB) – The provincial and federal governments are making a combined investment of more than $800,000 to help Les Entreprises A.& R. Savoie & Fils ltée expand and improve its competitiveness and efficiency. The company is better known by its trademark, Supreme Homes.

"Investing in economic development projects in Tracadie-Sheila and the Acadian Peninsula are important for northern New Brunswick's economy," said Premier David Alward. "This investment will allow Supreme Homes to increase efficiency at its newly expanded facility."

The provincial government is contributing $326,100 toward the building expansion.

"Our government's top priority is the economy and jobs for Canadians as we build through these challenging economic times," said Bernard Valcourt, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and la Francophonie. "Our investment in Supreme Homes will allow this northern New Brunswick company to modernize its facility, meaning increased efficiency in production, leading to continued long-term success and sustained jobs in this region."

The federal government, through ACOA, is contributing $440,000. ACOA is providing an additional $39,750 under its Productivity and Business Skills program toward implementing a productivity improvement initiative.

"This expansion will help us increase our efficiency and will allow us to improve our competitiveness during these difficult economic times," said Robert Savoie, chief executive officer, Supreme Homes. "I would like to thank the two levels of government for their support, as these investments will enable us to maintain our existing jobs, as well as create new employment."

The company is expanding and modernizing its plant with the installation of a geothermal and a sprinkler system for energy efficiency and safety purposes. It is also upgrading its information technology systems and improving its operational efficiencies. This assistance is expected to enable the company to remain competitive in its niche market.

Supreme Homes started operations in 1982 in Tracadie-Sheila with the manufacturing of prefabricated sheds and baby barns sold locally. In 1995, the company began manufacturing mini and modular homes at its plant in the Tracadie Industrial Park.
