GRAND MANAN (CNB) - The provincial government is providing additional investments to help complete a community centre in the Village of Grand Manan.

Premier Shawn Graham made the announcement today along with Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet and Grand Manan Mayor Dennis Greene.

"Our additional investment in this community centre will provide services for our young people and all community groups, improve the quality of their lives, and help us encourage more young people to stay in New Brunswick," said Graham. "The Province of New Brunswick is proud to be an important partner in this community project for Grand Manan."

Today's investment of an additional $850,000 is being made through the Regional Development Corporation and will allow the installation of ice-making equipment at the community centre. The project also includes the addition of dressing rooms, proper arena boards and spectator seating.

"This additional funding for the community centre announced by Premier Graham will enable our community to enjoy the benefits of a facility that until today could only be imagined," said Greene. "The completion of the arena will provide an opportunity for Grand Mananers of all ages to come together to either participate in an activity or enjoy the social aspect of watching those who are participating."

In August 2007, the provincial government contributed more than $1.1 million towards the Grand Manan Community Centre project, which includes a rink, the Grand Manan Boys and Girls Club, a fitness centre, community meeting rooms and space for the village's administration.
