FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs:

Earlier today I received official word from the lieutenant governor of New Brunswick, confirming the passing of His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I extend to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and all members of the Royal Family our most profound condolences. His late Royal Highness was greatly loved by all. We fondly remember his many visits to our province over the years, both on his own and with Her Majesty The Queen, and the special efforts he made to meet with New Brunswickers from all walks of life who strive to make valuable contributions to their communities.

His Royal Highness will be deeply mourned by all and his legacy will continue through the thousands of young people who challenged themselves each year to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. For generations to come, New Brunswickers will look upon the rose bush planted on the grounds of Government House by Her Majesty The Queen in commemoration of the 2002 Royal Visit, as a reminder of Prince Philip’s unwavering dignity, loyalty and service to all Canadians.

God save the Queen.
