EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – S&P Data is establishing a business services centre in Edmundston, creating up to 289 jobs over the next five years with support from the provincial government.

“Growing the business services sector in New Brunswick is a part of your government’s multi-year economic growth plan,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “These new jobs are good news for working families in the Edmundston area and further proof that, due to our strong workforce, our province is an attractive place for businesses to invest.”

It is estimated that creating 289 new jobs would contribute $54.6 million in direct GDP for the province over five years. The provincial government is investing up to $2.2 million toward the creation of these jobs.

S&P Data’s decision to locate in Edmundston follows the opening of the company’s Saint John location in March and reflects the strength of the province’s business services sector. The industry is identified as a strategic opportunity in the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan

“S&P Data is very excited to be doing business here in Edmundston,” said president Brian Cato. “Our experience in the Saint John region convinced us that New Brunswick was a great place to make further investments. S&P Data offers great benefits and we focus heavily on employee engagement and culture. We look forward to engaging the community and to growing our operations in Edmundston in the weeks, months and years to come.”

To support the creation of these jobs, S&P Data is eligible for an investment of up to $1.875 million from Opportunities NB, which is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across New Brunswick.

The investment comes in the form of payroll rebates, which are performance-based and only disbursed to a company once it has created and maintained the jobs for at least one year and provided proof of salary levels and employment.

The Regional Development Corporation will also invest $300,000 as a non-repayable contribution through the Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund. This investment will be used for capital expenditures.

The company has signed a lease for commercial space in the Madawaska Centre, providing further economic stimulus to the city of Edmundston.

S&P Data currently operates eight locations across Canada and the United States. About 450 jobs are expected to be created over the next five years at the company’s Saint John business services centre.
