FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour organized 19 job fairs in 13 different communities between June and December 2017. These included annual job fairs as well as targeted events such as sector specific fairs or ones organized for newcomers and international students.

“Creating jobs and growing the economy is our number one focus and we will continue working hard to address the challenges facing the province’s labour market,” said Labour, Employment and Population Growth Minister Gilles LePage. “Thousands of jobs in our province are waiting to be filled. Your government is committed to taking steps to close workforce gaps, and to building a skilled workforce, one that will enable businesses to effectively establish, operate and grow in our province.”

The government also supports job and career fairs organized by partners such as Opportunities NB, the private sector, municipalities or post-secondary institutions in New Brunswick, across Canada and abroad.

“We are making targeted efforts to work with employers and other stakeholders to recruit new workers to fill job vacancies and ensure that labour market needs are met,” said LePage.

More job fairs will be held in 2018 to make potential workers aware of opportunities in their own region and around the province.

The government encourages New‎ Brunswickers who are unemployed or underemployed to contact an employment counsellor for assistance. These counsellors can provide advice or set-up training to help applicants get a job. Employment Development Offices are located across the province, or individuals may visit the NBJobs.ca website for labour market information, career development resources and online job postings.
